DSN’s Projects that are making a difference. Now in our 7th year we have supported around 200 deaf children across Cheshire West, Cheshire East, Halton, Warrington, Wirral and parts of Liverpool. Children and their families have experienced both small and and big changes such as increased confidence, more independence, making new friends and feeling less isolated and less frustrated.

Hear Me

Hear Me is a new project to support Deaf children or those with hearing loss in Wrexham and Flintshire.

This will improve communication in the home and in social environments, as well as improving confidence, independence and socialisation, and reducing relationship breakdown and bullying. This has been made possible through National Lottery Funding in which DSN was awarded £248,708 to employ specialist project workers and staff.

Through the Hear Me! Project, DSN aims to empower children, young people, and their families to enhance communication and foster inclusion in our local community.

The National Lottery’s generous funding is the key to making a positive impact and ensuring Deaf children and those with hearing loss can thrive in the community for generations to come.

I’m Hear!

Supporting Deaf children and those with hearing loss to improve their lives through better awareness and communication.

What we do

Deafness affects every child differently and their needs are as unique as they are. We tailor support for up to 10 home based sessions for families of deaf children aged 0 – 18 years with any type of deafness.

Sessions are interactive so you are fully involved; we will work with you, at your own pace, using a range of practical resources to improve:

  • Deaf awareness at home
  • Verbal communication
  • Learning some basic signs

Activities

Our monthly activity groups encourage children under 10 to socialise, as well as their siblings and parents/carers

Youth Group

Access to our ‘Youth Vibe’ youth group for children aged 8+

Family Events

Our annual family events give people the chance to meet other families and other deaf children

For the first time, I can now have a conversation (in sign language), with my daughter. We can enjoy doing things together like shopping and chatting over a coffee – something I’d always wished for, and now we can!
