DSN Celebrates Deaf Awareness Week with Community Events and Outreach Across the Region

DSN Celebrates Deaf Awareness Week with Community Events and Outreach Across the Region (May 2025)

Deafness Support Network (DSN) marked Deaf Awareness Week with a series of impactful events and activities designed to celebrate the deaf community and raise awareness of deafness across Cheshire and North Wales.

One of the week’s highlights was a vibrant afternoon tea event held at DSN Northwich, where over 50 members of the deaf community came together to connect, share experiences, and celebrate the strength and diversity of the community.

Throughout the week, DSN also hosted a number of awareness stalls in key public locations including Manchester Airport, Macclesfield’s Picturedrome, and hospitals in Chester, Leighton and Northwich. These stalls provided vital information, resources, and friendly conversations, helping to educate the wider public about deafness and promote inclusivity.

DSN staff engaged with dozens of people both in person and online, using the week as an opportunity to spotlight the challenges faced by the deaf community while showcasing the range of services available. A special awareness session was also delivered to United Utilities, one of many organisations DSN partners with to ensure better accessibility and support for deaf individuals in everyday services.

The week’s campaign also focused on signposting the community to DSN’s extensive services and strengthening connections with stakeholders, reinforcing the organisation’s mission to create a more inclusive society for all.
