Thank you so much for considering a gift in your will to DSN.

DSN was founded in 1976 as the Cheshire Deaf Society, and now provides a wide range of support and services for Deaf and Deafblind people and those with a hearing loss and people with a visual impairment in Cheshire, North Wales and the surrounding area. For nearly 50 years we have been working towards a world where people with sensory loss can communicate effectively and live healthy, independent and fulfilling lives.

Gifts in wills

Gifts in wills (otherwise called legacy gifts) mean that the work we do will live on into the next generation. Your gift will mean that many more people with a sensory loss, for years to come, can be supported to live healthy, independent and fulfilling lives. Thank you.

If you’ve already made a will and you want to include a gift to DSN, you might be able to add an amendment, which means you don’t have to rewrite it. Talk to a qualified professional, such as a solicitor, about this.

Not made a will yet?

Making your will is the best way to make sure your wishes are carried out after you die. It may also be simpler than you think.

What to do next

Decide what kind of gift you want to leave.

A share of your estate
(a residuary legacy)

This is a percentage of what remains of your estate after all other gifts and expenses have been paid. Many people choose to add a percentage of their estate to DSN as this means your gift remains in proportion to what you want to leave to family and friends.

A specific sum (a pecuniary legacy)

This is a gift of a set amount of money.

A specific item

This could be something of value such as jewellery, a painting, property or shares.

Next steps

You should discuss your will, and the type of gift you might like to leave to DSN, with your solicitor. The value of your gift to us will be deducted from your estate before Inheritance Tax is applied, so it could reduce the amount of tax paid.

Your solicitor will be able to discuss how this may affect your estate and beneficiaries.

Please do let us know when you have included us in your will, or request further information, by contacting us on 0333 220 5050 or email dsn@dsnonline.co.uk
