Objectives
- Explain the main stages of a police investigation and the charging process, including the roles and responsibilities of key police personnel.
- Identify and describe the key requirements of PACE Codes C and F.
- Explain the role and responsibilities of an interpreter in a police setting, including confidentiality, impartiality, accuracy and professional boundaries.
- Prepare for police interpreting assignments by identifying the relevant terminology, procedures and potential challenges associated with suspect interviews, ABE interviews and arrests.
- Identify key police-related vocabulary and terminology.
- Recognise appropriate filming and framing requirements for police video interviews and demonstrate an understanding of how these may affect the interpreter’s positioning and performance.
Demonstrate effective teamwork and professional communication when working with police personnel by participating appropriately in a simulated police assignment and following agreed procedures and professional standards.
