DSN’s Projects that are making a difference. Now in our 7th year we have supported around 200 deaf children across Cheshire West, Cheshire East, Halton, Warrington, Wirral and parts of Liverpool. Children and their families have experienced both small and big changes such as increased confidence, more independence, making new friends and feeling less isolated and less frustrated.

Hear Me

Hear Me! is a project in Wrexham and Flintshire that supports families with children and young people with any form of deafness or severity.

Through the Hear Me! Project, DSN aims to empower children, young people, and their families to enhance communication and foster inclusion in their local community.

We tailor support for up to 10 home-based sessions for families of deaf children aged 0 – 18 years with any type of deafness.

Sessions are interactive so you are fully involved; we will work with you, at your own pace, using a range of practical resources to improve:

  • Deaf awareness at home
  • Verbal communication
  • Learning some basic signs

In addition all families on our programme are invited to fun monthly events including bowling, farm visits and Christmas activities.  These are a great opportunity for children and their families to meet others with shared experiences.

We also offer Deaf Awareness Training free of charge for organisations or businesses in Wrexham and Flintshire.  A great chance to help your organisation become more welcoming for people with hearing loss.

Family Events

Our annual family events give people the chance to meet other families and other deaf children

For the first time, I can now have a conversation (in sign language), with my daughter. We can enjoy doing things together like shopping and chatting over a coffee – something I’d always wished for, and now we can!

One of the biggest things we’ve noticed is how much more comfortable he is with his hearing aid. Meeting other children with hearing aids has really helped him feel like he’s not alone

It’s been such a supportive space for us as parents – we’ve learned so much and feel more confident communicating in different ways

We’ve really enjoyed being part of the signing sessions – they’ve been such a positive experience for our whole family

The fact that this is offered for free is so great – the whole day was nice and relaxed and super informative, thank you
